When deciding whether or not to take the leap into your own boudoir session, one concern may be how far outside of your comfort zone you will have to go. Some may argue that pushing the boundaries of your comfort zone is a good thing. However, even if you are deciding to push the boundaries of your comfort zone, there needs to be a clear line drawn in the sand as to how far you’re willing to go! It’s not up to us to decide where your comfort zone is, this is different for everyone.

Rest assured, you are in good hands at Boudoir Studios New York, as we have created a thorough process to help you fully customize your boudoir session. One of the most important steps is first understanding your comfort zone and how far would be too far. Then it’s imperative that your boundaries are clearly communicated to your photographer. We work hard to establish a truly trusting relationship with the women we photograph.

While many women would say that stripping down to her birthday suit was nothing more than liberating, that same thing may be paralyzing to another woman. This is why we make no assumptions - let’s find out if what is YOUR cup of tea.

Discover Your Comfort Zone

If you would imagine your comfort zone on a scale of 1-10, what number would you choose? Now imagine another woman defining her comfort zone. Does her 1 represent the same concept as your 1? What about her 10? The bottom line is your 5 may be completely different from her level 5 comfort level. The best way to discover your comfort zone is to take our Boudoir Personality Quiz. Having good communication with your photographer is essential so that no personal boundaries are crossed. Our quiz is a great place to start if you’re looking to define the line in your mind.

Plan on Fluid Boundaries

During your in-person planning session, you and the photographer are able to talk more about your taste preferences and what’s within your comfort zone. This is where we will discuss defining your fluid boundaries. We define a fluid boundary as a pose/outfit or implied nude look that you are curious to try, but hesitant. If you need the extra nudge to be brave to try something that is a little out of your comfort zone, we are here for that! However, if you change your mind last minute on a planned look/outfit and can’t bring yourself to come out of the dressing room, we are here for that too!! This is a fluid boundary - a plan discussed ahead of time with the understanding that in the moment things may change and that’s perfectly ok!!

You’re In Control

Although we say it all the time - “We will coach and guide through every pose. . .” - understand that you are fully in control of your session. Through our guides, planning sessions, zoom chats, and emails, trust is established to make sure you are in the driver’s seat for your boudoir session. There are no surprises or fear of the “unknown”. The thing is, how you see these dark and moody photos . . . may not look or feel like you thought it would when you are in the moment. So while many of the images in this blog would be considered “implied nude”, it’s a whole different story when it’s your turn to strip down! So even if some images you imagined yourself doing don’t work out, please know that it is always okay to change your mind.
